National Informatics Centre (NIC), Deptt. of Information technology,Ministry of Communicatin & IT, Government Of India represents the pioneer, foremost and largest source of services in the area of Informatics, which is defined as the combination of Information Technology and Telecommunication. The spectrum of services provided by NIC encompasses various dimensions of the Information Technology Arena such as Consultancy, Software Development, Data Communication, Multimedia, Internet Service, E-Commerce, Networking, Office Automation etc. NIC's network known as NICNET presently connects all the district to State capitals to Center. Video conferencing services has been provided through DAMA VSAT. NIC District Units provide effective informatics support to the Development, Revenue and other department of the District.

NIC at J.P.Nagar: The NIC J.P.Nagar District Centre became operational in Dec.2001. In order to exploit and explore the vast opportunities offered by Information Technology aimed at improving and accelerating the planning process and implementation of socio-economic programmes, it was necessary to create mass awareness among officials of District Administration and other departments in the District . Being a new district in which still the proper infrastructure is not available, It was a challenging task before NIC to develop an IT culture in this district.To achieve this target NIC started sevral training programme for collectorate, revenue, Desto,Cmo, Treasury staff. All IT support provided to Govt. deptt. in this new district.

Helping the District Administration: Ever since its inception, the NIC District Centre at J.P.Nagar has carried out various projects for District Administration. Some of the highlights of such achievement include :

• NIC J.P.Nagar actively assisting the District Administration in Parliamentary, Assembly, Panchayat and Local Bodies Elections. Every election related work was processed using computers right from deployment and issue of orders of election staff from the database to the round wise counting result compilation & transmission.

• Treasury has been computerised using TISNIC (Treasury Information System of NIC) & PDSNIC (Pension Disbursement System of NIC) softwares provided by the NIC UP State Unit Lucknow. Monthly account is being generated & submitted to the Accountant General Office, Allahabad. Daily Receipt and payment is feeded online in the treasury website.

• Computerization of Arms Licenses Information System was yet another important project undertaken by the District Centre. The Problems of the manual system were many. There was no properly maintained chronological record of the Arms Licenses issued to the customers. Moreover, because of ill maintenance, accessibility of records regarding liencecsing, cancellation or renewal was very difficult. The computerised system helped the administration in terms of easy accessibility for reference and monitoring of the system.

• NIC has implemented various computerised MIS. This include MIS for District Plan, 20point Monitoring System, District Statistics Handbook, Divisional Statistics Handbook, AGMARKNET for Amroha Mandi,CDMPR,ICDS,Price & wages etc .

• Salary computerisation is done by NIC J.P.Nagar for all most all the Govt. offices. DM J.P.Nagar took keen interest and asked all the deptt. for Payroll Computerisation in NIC J.P.Nagar

• NIC has facilitated the offices which do not have computer to use its own facilities at District Centre for sending and receiving E-mails. All most all the major deptt. like DM Office, CDO, DDO,PD DRDA,DESTO are using NIC system as this is a new district and only in NIC the computer system are available. So NIC extended all supoort to all the deptt. . All the regular work of these deptt. is carreid out in NIC only.The excellent performance of NIC J.P.Nagar Unit has gained wide appreciation from the District Authorities. The services of NIC were widely appreciated by the District Magistrate, J.P.Nagar. Still targeting for more major projets in J.P.Nagar

  NICNET : The NIC District Centre, has provided the NICNET Communication facility to a wide variety of user departments. Video conferencing facility has been provdied which make a good impact on administration and now distance has been reduced for getting better guideline from the higher authorities from state govt. as well as central Govt.
